This pack is part of a series meant to refine the various recipes found in Minecraft to be balanced, consistent, and convenient.

This pack should work on the latest version of Minecraft, even if I haven't updated the metadata yet. Please report an issue if it doesn't function in the latest update.

Why Does This Exist?

While there are many data packs that tweak recipes, none provided a cohesive set of changes that prioritized balance, convenience, and consistency at the time Crafting Refinements was created. This pack has been split off to allow for greater modularity.

Design Philosophy

There are some general rules that Minecraft recipes generally follow (and which this datapack seeks to remove exceptions to)

1. Recipes should resemble the final product
2. Similar outputs should have similar recipes (minor differences are allowed for different material types)
3. Crafting results should be proportional to their input (some loss is acceptable, and often expected)
4. Specialized stations (stonecutter, blast furnace, etc.) should have equal or better rates
5. Crafting results should not grant an overabundance of materials
6. A block created with a 3x3 of the same material should be unpackable
7. A block created with a 2x2 of the same material should not be unpackable
8. Brewing recipes should not use full blocks, tools, or armor as ingredients
9. Time is an important resource and should be spent on fun gameplay
10. Impact on inventory clutter should be kept in mind
11. Recipes with the same output should be grouped in the recipe book

What Are the Changes?

I have added a whole slew of additional stonecutter recipes. Wool and woodcutting are now a thing! Not only does this let you cut logs into planks, but planks into stairs, slabs, pressure plates, buttons, and trapdoors! On the last three, you'll even get better conversion rates. One plank will give you 2 pressure plates, 4 buttons, or 2 trapdoors. The reason these rates are not applied to the crafting table is to prevent inventory clutter. Plus it makes sense that the stonecutter is more efficient. You get more product for the meter-by-meter-by-meter wooden cube you sacrificed!

Wool Cutting

Wool is no longer limited to the crafting table! It can now be cut into stairs and slabs.

Plank Cutting

Planks can also be cut in the stonecutter to get the same rates and flexibility afforded to stone and copper. They can be cut into stairs, slabs, pressure plates, buttons, and trapdoors.

Log Cutting

Logs and wood can be cut into planks.

Logs and wood can also be converted into wood.

Logs and wood can also be cut into everything planks can make with 4x the results!

Copper Cutting

Copper has had three new stone cutting recipes. These let you cut bars, lightning rods, and trapdoors without needing to wait for them to oxidize.

Cutting copper into trapdoors yields three to better match the changes I've made to the trapdoor recipe in Crafting Refinements: Copper Consistency. That pack is not required however. Without it, cutting copper into trapdoors is just much more efficient than crafting them with ingots outright.

Cutting copper into bars reflect the vanilla's 3:8 ratio of ingots to bars.

Stone Cutting

Does the stonecutter not cut enough stone for you? Fear not! Buttons and pressure plates are now special options!

Blackstone Cutting

Same thing applies to blackstone and polished blackstone!

Bamboo Block Cutting

Bamboo blocks can also be cut into their corresponding planks and other wooden products at 2x the yield. However, they also have the option of cutting into mosaics.

Likewise, bamboo planks can be cut into mosaic variants. Bamboo mosaic blocks can be cut into mosaic stairs and slabs.

These recipe changes seek to follow rules 3, 4, 5, 9, and 10.
