About the Tsukuba Express (From Wikipedia) The Tsukuba Express (TX) is a commuter railway line operated by Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company, connecting Akihabara Station in Chiyoda, Tokyo and Tsukuba Station in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture. While officially named the Jōban New Line in legal documents, this name is never used in public signage or announcements. "Tsukuba Express" is widely used as both the corporate brand and the route name.

The line was developed based on plans to link Tokyo with the Tsukuba Science City and to alleviate congestion on the Jōban Line of the former Japanese National Railways. It opened on August 24, 2005.

With a maximum speed of 130 km/h, the line covers its full length of 58.3 km between Akihabara and Tsukuba in just 45 minutes via rapid services. In addition to serving commuters in Tokyo’s eastern suburbs, Saitama, Chiba, and Ibaraki Prefecture, the line also functions as a tourist route by connecting with the Mount Tsukuba shuttle bus. The line’s opening spurred significant residential development around stations such as Nagareyama-Ōtakanomori and Kashiwanoha-campus.

車両(路線)の解説(Wikipediaより) つくばエクスプレス（TSUKUBA EXPRESS、略称ならびに路線記号：TX）は、東京都千代田区の秋葉原駅と茨城県つくば市のつくば駅を結ぶ、首都圏新都市鉄道の鉄道路線である。『鉄道要覧』における正式路線名は常磐新線（じょうばんしんせん）であるが、案内上は全く使用されない。また、「つくばエクスプレス」は会社および輸送機関の愛称としても使われていることから、特に路線を指す場合において乗車券類などにつくばエクスプレス線という表記が使われる場合もある。

東京都心と筑波研究学園都市の間を結ぶ鉄道構想をもとに、鉄道通勤事情が当時悪化していた日本国有鉄道（国鉄）常磐線の混雑解消および首都圏の宅地供給を目的として開発され、2005年（平成17年）8月24日に開業した。

最高速度130 km/hと高速で運転を行っており、秋葉原駅 - つくば駅間58.3キロメートル (km) を最速45分（快速）で結ぶ。東京都区部と埼玉県東南部、千葉県東葛飾地域、筑波研究学園都市を含む茨城県南地域を結ぶ通勤・通学路線としてのみならず、筑波山シャトルバスと接続することにより筑波山への観光路線としての役割も担っている。当路線開業により、流山おおたかの森駅や柏の葉キャンパス駅などの沿線では宅地開発が盛んに行われている。
