When a player dies, BetterGraves places a grave at the death location: a player head with the owner's skin (or a full tombstone model) that keeps the complete inventory in its exact slots, plus the XP. Walk back, sneak + right click, and everything is where it was – armor on, off hand filled, hotbar sorted.

Features

Graves

• Grave on death – inventory, armor, off hand and XP are stored. No items = no grave (configurable).
• Smart placement – exact death spot if possible, otherwise the nearest solid surface. Works in the void, lava, oceans and the Nether (the bedrock roof is never used).
• Despawn timer – graves disappear after 3 hours (configurable or never). Their contents are archived, so admins can restore them.
• Grave limit – optional maximum of graves per player.
• Protection – graves can not be mined, blown up, pushed by pistons or flooded.

Interaction

Action	What happens
Right click	Opens the loot menu. Everyone can take items (or only the owner – your choice).
Sneak + right click (owner)	Quick loot: every item goes back into its original slot, XP is returned.
Left click	Breaks the grave – the items drop on the ground. XP only drops for the owner.

Grave zombie

When a grave is broken or looted, a restless spirit rises wearing the owner's head – and may drop that head when killed. Mob type, amount, health, damage, speed, triggers and drop chance are configurable.

Grave compass

After respawning, players get a compass that points to their grave. While holding it, the action bar shows the distance and a direction arrow. Right click switches between all your graves, left click shows the distance in the chat. Vanilla Recovery Compasses point to the grave as well.

Looks

• Hologram with owner, cause of death (in every player's own client language) and a live countdown.
• Tombstone model (optional) – earth mound, stone slab, cross, burning candle, "R.I.P." engraving and the owner's head, built from display entities. Materials are configurable.
• Particles – a soul spiral when the grave appears and a slowly rotating ring while it exists.
• Death effects – a short cosmetic effect on every death: lightning, soul spiral, dark firework, ghost shockwave, blood burst, funeral bell, bat swarm, ender rift or totem flash. In rotation or at random.

For admins

• Admin GUI – paged menu of all active and archived graves: teleport, view, open, delete or restore with one click.
• Restore – give archived items back to the player, directly into their original slots.
• Statistics – /graves stats: deaths, graves, looted / broken / expired graves, most common cause of death.
• Config auto-update – new options from plugin updates are added to your config.yml and messages.yml automatically. Your values stay.

Integrations (all optional)

• BlueMap, Dynmap and squaremap – grave markers on your web map.
• Discord – webhook messages when a grave is created, broken, looted or expires.
• WorldGuard – region flag graves-create and a list of blocked regions.
