Respawn sequence with the mod
Example usage of the mod; inputs get locked during respawn procedures while playing WLC. Locking the inputs prevents a desync bug that would stop the boat in place. (See the bug showcase GIF.)

Bug showcase (no mod)
Without the mod, a desync can happen between the client and the server, *causing your velocity to get zeroed right after getting launched*, which is problematic in many ways.

Alternative no-mod solution is sadge
A mod-less solution is that players could have an inventory open up right before launching, in order to prevent them from inputting and causing the bug. However, this is not a perfect solution, and it looks terrible, lowering quality of life.
