Flow of redstone
Pipes are non-directional. Items inside it follow the flow of redstone. Pipes can only take items from an inventory if they are fully powered!

Even distribution
Items are evenly distributed when a split is encountered.

Limited range
Because the flow of items depends on a redstone signal, the effective range is the same as that of redstone dust. Also, pipes conduct redstone.

Beware of valleys
Some configurations cause "valleys" to trap items in the pipe network. You need to be careful!
