The functionality of torches has been slightly enhanced, adding a few minor effects—such as the ability to briefly set mobs on fire by striking them while holding a torch, and the ability to throw and place torches using a bow.

Attacking a skeleton with a torch
If you attack an enemy while holding a torch, you can set them on fire for a short time.

Inside the cave, they used bows and arrows to shoot out torches.
If you hold a torch in your off-hand and a bow or crossbow in your main hand, you will be able to fire the torch.
