This mod brings a more natural feel to the vanilla woods using Stains. Players must harvest stripped logs of: Acacia, Birch, Cherry, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, Oak, and Spruce. Once harvested, put them into a Blast Furnace to create Pulp for whatever variety of wood was Blasted. Then players can use the Pulp combined with an Empty Bottle to make that variety of wood Stain. For example, if Stripped Oak Logs are Blasted, that becomes Oak Pulp. Oak Pulp and an Empty Bottle make Oak Stain. Substitute Oak for any of the vanilla woods already mentioned. Why all this work just for a bottle of Stain? Place an Oak slab on the ground, then Right-click it with the Oak Stain. Ta-da! It becomes the "natural" version of an Oak Slab. This works on: Planks, Stairs, Doors, Trapdoors, Fences, and Fence Gates for all the vanilla woods mentioned. Bonus feature of this mod includes the ability to turn a regular Barrel into an Acacia Barrel, or a Dark Oak Barrel, or a Birch Barrel, or a Cherry Barrel, or a Jungle Barrel, or a Mangrove Barrel, or a Spruce Barrel, or an Oak Barrel, (using the appropriate Stain). The contents of the Barrel will remain, but the Barrel will change to match the "natural" look of that wood. There are also recipes to craft all the new pieces using Slabs and Stain! Yes, I said Slabs! Let's go meet the family! !Stained Family Photo: Acacia, Birch, Cherry, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, Oak, and Spruce.

To help bring all this together, a few new Items were included besides all the Blocks above, and Recipes were created to tie all that into the new Blocks. So now that you have seen all the pieces, and you know which Woods were are working with, I give you...

Staining

The Process of Staining:

  1. Harvest Stripped logs from source(s).
  2. Blast Stripped logs into Pulp.!Pulp Blasting recipe: 1 Stripped Log = 1 Pulp
  3. Combine 8 Pulp with 1 Empty Bottle to make Stain.!Crafting Stain: 8 Pulp + 1 Empty Bottle = 1 Stained Bottle
  4. Equip Stain bottle, and right-click any vanilla piece from the list(s).

Recipes

Before, I mentioned being able to use Slabs to craft all these new Blocks too, and most of the time the only other ingredient is a bottle of Stain. Recipes have been balanced pretty fairly, currently Stain bottles have 24 uses each, but that could be subject to change in the future.!Crafting a Stained Oak Slab: Any 1 Slab + 1 Oak Stain = 1 Oak Stained Slab

Since the Block recipes are based in Slabs, matching the equivalent vanilla recipe meant sacrificing result quantity for crafting grid space, which meant juggling the ingredients a bit more.!Crafting a Stained Oak Block: 6 Slabs + 1 Oak Stain = 3 Oak Stained Blocks

Other recipes include obvious ingredients, like Glass, or Sticks, with the exception of each Trapdoor recipe that also includes an Iron Ingot.!Crafting a Birch Stained Door: 4 Slabs + 2 Glass Panes + 1 Birch Stain = 1 Birch Stained Door !Crafting a Birch Fence: 4 Slabs + 2 Sticks + 1 Birch Stain = 2 Birch Stained Fences

!Crafting a Birch Fence Gate: 4 Sticks + 2 Slabs + 1 Birch Stain = 1 Birch Stained Fence Gate

!Crafting Birch Stained Stairs: 8 Slabs + 1 Birch Stain = 2 Birch Stained Stairs

!Crafting an Oak Stained Trapdoor: 1 Iron Ingot + 2 Slabs + 1 Oak Stain = 1 Oak Stained Trapdoor

Requirements

Built and Tested on MC JAVA 1.21.1 and Neoforge 21.1.186 Converted and Tested on MC Java 26.1.2 and Neoforge 26.1.2.95 Converted to Fabric and tested on MC Java 26.1.2 This mod does not replace anything and adds a fun component to Minecraft, but it does require Neoforge/Fabric. Recipes are reasonably balanced, but lean more towards using the Stain versus Crafting.

FAQ

Q. Can I use your mod in my mod? A. Yes! If you could please include a Credits.txt file with the name of this mod.

Q. Why can't I change this _____ Slab/Block/Stair/Trapdoor/Door/Fence/Fence Gate into the natural version? A. Make sure you are using the same Stain as the target. Oak Stain will not work on a Birch piece.
