Custom Recipe

Create, edit and manage Minecraft crafting recipes directly in-game — without writing datapacks or JSON files.

Custom Recipe provides a complete visual recipe editor for singleplayer worlds and servers.

Create shaped or shapeless recipes, use vanilla or modded items, organize recipes per world, maintain a reusable Global Library, modify existing Minecraft recipes, handle recipe conflicts, and manage everything from a graphical interface.

⚠️ GUI Scale: Custom Recipe works best with GUI Scale 1, 2, or 3.
Recent versions can automatically switch to the recommended scale while the editor is open and restore your previous setting when you leave.

✨ What can Custom Recipe do?

  • 🛠️ Create shaped and shapeless crafting recipes
  • 📦 Use vanilla and modded items
  • 🌍 Configure recipes independently for every world
  • 📚 Maintain a reusable Global Library
  • 🔎 Browse and search vanilla and modded recipes
  • 🚫 Disable complete recipes or individual material variants
  • 📖 Integrate custom recipes with Minecraft's recipe book
  • ⚡ Support normal crafting and Shift-crafting
  • 🖥️ Manage recipes on dedicated servers
  • 🔄 Detect recipes affected by missing mods
  • 💾 Import, export and safely migrate recipe configurations
  • ⚙️ Configure editor behaviour directly in-game

No manual datapack editing is required.

🧰 Visual Recipe Builder

Create custom crafting recipes directly from Minecraft.

The recipe builder lets you:

  • Create shaped recipes using the normal crafting-grid layout.
  • Create shapeless recipes where ingredient position does not matter.
  • Search items by their displayed name or item ID.
  • Use items provided by installed mods.
  • Configure the recipe output and output quantity.
  • Quickly reuse previously selected items.
  • Clear slots without rebuilding the recipe.
  • Enable or disable custom recipes.
  • Edit or delete existing recipes.
  • Mark recipes as Known by default.

Custom Recipe is designed so that creating a recipe feels like using Minecraft's crafting table rather than editing configuration files.

🔎 Powerful recipe search

The recipe browsers include advanced search designed for larger modpacks.

Depending on the screen, recipes can be found using:

  • Item display name
  • Item ID
  • Ingredient name
  • Ingredient ID
  • Recipe ID
  • Mod namespace

Ingredient searches also inspect all items accepted by ingredient tags, rather than only showing the first matching item.

This works with both local and dedicated-server recipe catalogs.

🌍 Global Library & per-world configurations

Every local Minecraft world can have its own completely independent recipe configuration.

Custom Recipe includes a world selector that can display:

  • World name
  • World icon
  • Save information
  • Search results
  • The currently selected recipe target

Your worlds do not need to share the same recipes.

Global Library

The Global Library stores reusable recipe templates independently from your worlds.

You can:

  • Create reusable recipes once.
  • Copy recipes into different worlds.
  • Keep each copied recipe independent.
  • Build recipes directly for a specific world.
  • Optionally save recipes back into the Global Library.
  • Import and export your library.

Changing a recipe inside one world does not unexpectedly modify another world's copy.

📖 Default Recipes

Custom Recipe does more than add new recipes.

The Default Recipes browser lets you inspect and control crafting recipes provided by Minecraft and installed mods.

You can:

  • Search recipes by output, ingredient, ID or mod.
  • View their real crafting-grid layout.
  • Browse Vanilla and Modded recipes.
  • Filter recipes by their current status.
  • Inspect ingredient tags.
  • Preview interchangeable materials.
  • Disable a complete recipe.
  • Disable only a specific material variant.

For example, a recipe accepting the #minecraft:planks tag can expose its different wood variants instead of treating the ingredient as one invisible generic value.

This is especially useful when building custom progression or replacing an existing recipe.

⚔️ Recipe conflict handling

Minecraft can contain several recipes that match the same crafting grid.

Custom Recipe contains dedicated conflict handling so custom recipes can coexist correctly with vanilla and modded recipes.

  • Vanilla recipes keep priority when an identical recipe is still enabled.
  • Matching default recipes can be disabled when intentionally replacing them.
  • Recipes using the same ingredients but producing different outputs are handled independently.
  • Custom recipes can be exposed through Minecraft's recipe book.
  • Shift-crafting is supported.

This lets you deliberately replace a recipe without unpredictably breaking unrelated crafting behaviour.

📚 Minecraft Recipe Book integration

Custom recipes can work with Minecraft's normal green recipe book.

Recipes marked Known by default can automatically become available to players without requiring them to manually discover the recipe first.

Custom Recipe also handles cases where multiple recipes share the same crafting ingredients, allowing the intended output to remain accessible through the recipe book.

⚙️ Editor Settings

Recent Custom Recipe versions include an in-game settings screen.

You can configure options such as:

  • Automatically using the recommended GUI Scale while editing.
  • Choosing which world or Global Library opens by default.
  • Preloading Default Recipes when the editor starts.
  • Resetting individual settings.

When automatic GUI scaling is enabled, Custom Recipe restores the exact GUI Scale you were using before opening the editor when you leave.

⚡ Quick Add

Frequently used recipes can be kept close at hand through Quick Add.

It can contain:

  • Included ready-made recipes.
  • Your own saved custom-recipe shortcuts.

Selecting a Quick Add recipe creates an independent recipe in the chosen world, so the resulting recipe can still be edited normally.

🎁 Built-in recipe presets

Custom Recipe includes several optional ready-made recipes that can be quickly added when supported by the Minecraft version.

Examples include:

  • Elytra
  • Totem of Undying
  • Enchanted Golden Apple
  • Bottle o' Enchanting
  • Heavy Core

These are optional shortcuts.

They are not automatically forced into every world.

🧩 Missing mods & changing modpacks

Custom Recipe is designed to handle worlds where the installed mod list changes over time.

If a custom recipe references an item belonging to a mod that is no longer installed:

  • The missing item is detected.
  • The affected recipe can be marked as unavailable instead of silently breaking.
  • The recipe remains preserved.
  • It can recover if the missing mod becomes available again.

Client and server recipe catalogs are also kept separate.

That means a client with additional mods installed does not accidentally expose unavailable items inside the server recipe editor.

This makes Custom Recipe more suitable for long-term worlds and evolving modpacks.

🖥️ Dedicated server administration

Custom Recipe includes a graphical recipe-management system for dedicated servers.

Server operators can use:

/customrecipe

to open the server editor.

From there, operators can:

  • Create custom recipes.
  • Edit existing custom recipes.
  • Enable or disable recipes.
  • Browse server recipes.
  • Manage vanilla and modded recipes.
  • Control material variants.
  • Use Quick Add recipes.
  • Validate recipes against items installed on the server.
  • Stage multiple changes before applying them.

Server configuration access is protected by operator permissions.

Changes are applied through the editor's Save action.

For graphical server administration, the operator's client must have a compatible Custom Recipe installation.

💾 Import, export & configuration safety

Custom Recipe includes tools designed to make recipe configurations easier to preserve and move.

Configurations can support:

  • Full configuration export.
  • Global Library export.
  • Global Library import.
  • Safe migration from older Custom Recipe configurations.
  • Compatibility metadata for exported configurations.
  • Protection against unsupported newer configuration formats.

Library imports are designed to avoid blindly replacing existing recipes.

This is useful for backups, moving recipes between installations, and sharing reusable recipe collections.

🎮 Singleplayer workflow

In singleplayer, simply open the Custom Recipe editor and choose what you want to work on.

You can:

  1. Select the Global Library or one of your worlds.
  2. Open the recipe library.
  3. Create a new recipe.
  4. Browse Default Recipes.
  5. Add recipes through Quick Add.
  6. Make multiple changes.
  7. Press Save to apply them.

When opened from an active world, Custom Recipe can automatically target that world.

Unsaved changes are protected by confirmation prompts to reduce accidental data loss.

📦 Supported Minecraft versions & loaders

Custom Recipe currently targets multiple Minecraft generations, including:

Minecraft
1.20.1
1.21.1
1.21.8
1.21.10 – 1.21.11
26.1.x
26.2
26.3

Custom Recipe is available across Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, depending on the Minecraft version.

Not every loader is available for every Minecraft version.

Always choose the Modrinth file matching both your exact Minecraft version and your loader.

Dependencies also depend on the selected loader and Minecraft version. Check the dependency list shown on the corresponding Modrinth version page before installing.

🔧 Compatibility notes

Custom Recipe is developed across multiple Minecraft versions and mod loaders.

Because Minecraft's recipe system and loader APIs change between versions, some internal implementation details may differ.

The goal is to preserve the same core experience wherever possible:

  • Recipe creation
  • Recipe management
  • Global Library
  • Per-world configurations
  • Default Recipe controls
  • Recipe-book integration
  • Server administration
  • Missing-mod protection

Small interface or compatibility differences may exist between releases.

Always use a Custom Recipe build made specifically for your Minecraft version and loader.

💚 Built for players, modpacks and servers

Custom Recipe can be used for anything from adding a single missing craft to building a completely customized crafting progression.

It is suitable for:

  • Singleplayer worlds
  • Modded survival
  • Custom modpacks
  • Multiplayer servers
  • Administrators changing recipes without maintaining datapacks
  • Players who simply want an easier way to create Minecraft recipes

If you encounter a bug or compatibility problem, use the Issues link on this project page to report it.
