Realistic Meat Drops is a lightweight, open-source Minecraft datapack that brings a touch of real-world logic to animal farming and food gathering.

By thoughtfully combining Minecraft's simple physics with realistic animal properties like actual body mass, muscle distribution, and biology, this datapack increases meat yields from passive mobs to feel more immersive and rewarding without breaking vanilla balance.

Cows now drop 25–64 raw beef, pigs and sheep drop 10–25 pork and mutton.

Sheep will also drop more wool, similar to shear rates (1-3).

How to use

  1. Download the datapack from:

1a. Modrinth: Make sure it is a .zip file

1b. GitHub: Download the folder if you want to edit it, then compress it into a
.zip before installing (right click the folder, find the "compress to" option,
    select the "zip" option).

  2. Drag and drop it into your world's "datapacks" path in file explorer, it should look something like this: minecraft/saves/name of your world/datapacks

That's it!

Key Features:

Increased & Realistic Drops

Cows, pigs and sheep drop significantly more raw meat upon death, reflecting real-life proportions far beyond vanilla amounts. No more tiny single steaks from a full-grown cow!

Seamless Vanilla Integration

Works purely with existing game mechanics—no new items, blocks, or complex systems. Drops behave normally with physics, cooking, and hunger restoration.

Never Go Hungry Again

Makes early-game survival easier and late-game farming more satisfying. Perfect for players who want sustainable food sources without relying heavily on crops or fishing.

Compatible & Lightweight

Server and single-player friendly. Compatible with most other datapacks and resource packs. No performance impact.

Common Errors

  1. May conflict and break when paired with other mods that alter cows, pigs and sheep in any way.

  2. May receive error logs related to pack formats, this is a warning that can be safely ignored.

Why Choose This

In vanilla Minecraft, animal meat drops feel underwhelming compared to real animal yields. This datapack fixes that gap for a more natural, satisfying survival experience, ideal for realism-focused worlds, hardcore playthroughs, or anyone tired of constant hunger struggles.
