No Spear Minimum Reach

Minecrafts new spear is awesome, most of us know that. (I think) But couldn't it be better?

This datapack (maybe mod in future) adds one recipe to rule them all. A way to remove the spears minimum reach, and backport its removed ability to hit mobs without hitbox contact.

The recipe?:

In a smithing table, insert any spear, an echo shard, and some leather. this is a bit of an odd recipe, and may change in future.
