Lattice
Vanilla, woven deeper.
Lattice is a vanilla+ overhaul. Four modules add depth to systems Minecraft already does well — structural physics, craft quality, exploration recognition, and villager memory — without changing what vanilla already does well.
A player who installs Lattice and does nothing different still experiences a recognizable Minecraft. Lattice reveals itself when the player chooses to engage.

What's in it
🏗️ Loadbearing — Structural integrity simulation
Blocks have weight and lean. Bad cantilevers crack and fall.
Every tracked block lives in a hidden state machine: Stable → Stressed → Overloaded → Cracked → Failed. Build a 30-block stone cantilever and the unsupported end will accumulate stress, develop a visible crack, then fall. Add a support pillar in time, and the stress drains; the crack closes.
Six material classes — stone, wood, concrete, metal, masonry, fragile — each with their own load tolerance.
The Stress Probe (craftable) lets you inspect any tracked block's current state.
🛠️ Atelier — Craft quality variation
Every tool and armor piece rolls one of five tiers when you craft it:
| Tier | Probability | Durability |
|---|---|---|
| Crude | 10% | −20% |
| Plain | 50% | ±0% |
| Sound | 25% | +10% |
| Fine | 12% | +25% |
| Pristine | 3% | +50% |
Lore on every item shows its tier and effect. Fine and Pristine armor get unique names — a Pristine Diamond Chestplate announces itself in your inventory.
Covers all 30 craftable tools and 20 armor pieces. 130 quality variants in total.
🧭 Wayfare — Exploration progression
Time in biomes and discovery of structures grant lasting attunements.
Six biome categories, each granting context-appropriate effects while you're there:
- Forest → Speed
- Desert → Saturation
- Ocean → Water Breathing
- Cave → Night Vision
- Taiga → Resistance
- Mountain → Slow Falling
Seven structure attunements earned by discovering villages, ocean monuments, mansions, ancient cities, trial chambers, end cities, and nether fortresses.
The Way Compass (craftable) scans nearby biome categories you haven't yet attuned to, pointing you toward what's new.
🏛️ Renown — Villager memory
Villagers remember. Trade with them, cure their zombies, attack their kind — they remember.
A single score from −100 to +100, with six tiers from Hated to Revered. Trading earns reputation; killing villagers costs it; first contact grants a welcoming +5 boost. Reputation decays toward zero over real time — a single mistake is recoverable; a sustained pattern persists.
Crossing a tier boundary plays a chime and shows a title — "Welcomed: You are welcome here" — or, in the other direction, "Mistrusted: They no longer trust you."
The Lattice Codex
A carryable book item that opens Lattice's menu from inside the game world. Right-click it to view your progress across all four modules at once.
Craftable from 6 books + 2 iron ingots + 1 carrot-on-a-stick.
Installation
Lattice ships as two parts — a datapack and a resource pack. You need both.
- Drop the datapack zip into your world's
datapacks/folder. - Drop the resource pack zip into your Minecraft
resourcepacks/folder. - Launch the world. In game: Options → Resource Packs → enable Lattice.
Uninstalling: Run /function lattice:uninstall first to remove scoreboards, storage, and tags. Then remove the packs. Lattice ships no worldgen — removal leaves no permanent changes to your world.
First Steps
When you first install Lattice:
- Hit Escape — Lattice now appears as a pause-screen button. Browse the four module pages.
- Build something tall. Try a cantilever. Watch what happens when it crosses Loadbearing's threshold.
- Craft a tool. Read the lore. That's Atelier's tier roll.
- Travel somewhere new. Two minutes (alpha threshold) and you'll be attuned.
- Trade with a villager. Your first trade gives a +5 boost — enough to push you out of Stranger immediately.
Lattice rewards engagement. None of this is required. Vanilla still works exactly as it did.
Configuration
Every module can be enabled or disabled independently. Pause menu → Lattice → Modules → [module name] → Toggle Module On/Off.
Disabling a module preserves all of its state. Re-enabling restores everything where you left it.
There is no command-line admin interface — configuration is intentionally through the dialog menu.
Compatibility
- Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.11 and 26.1.1 (tested)
- Single-player and dedicated server
- Datapack format 94-120; resource pack format 75-100
- May work on other versions within the format range — untested
- Should coexist with most cosmetic packs
Status
Lattice v1.0.0-alpha — Feature-complete. Architecture stable. Seeking playtest feedback.
A small number of features wait on Minecraft 26.2 schema clarifications — per-profession Renown, iron golem hostility at low Renown, and non-fatal attack tracking. These will land in a later release.
