IPProtector is a crucial security tool for your server, designed to combat a common problem in the Minecraft community: identity theft through unofficial launchers. Instead of relying solely on the username, IPProtector securely links a player's username to their IP address, ensuring that only the account owner can access it.
How Does It Work?
- Initial Registration: The first time a player joins the server, the plugin registers their username and IP address. This information is securely stored in the
authorized_ips.ymlfile. - Access Verification: Every time the player tries to join again, IPProtector performs a check. It compares the "username + IP" pair with the data stored in the authorized file.
- Authorized Access: If the information matches, the player can join the server without any issues.
- Unauthorized Attempt: If the username and IP do not match the stored data, the plugin logs the attempt in the
unauthorized_attempts.ymlfile along with the date and time, and kicks the player immediately.
