Cartographer's Gambit
Unexplored map markers placed by cartographer villagers reveal hidden buried loot when you reach them. The further from villages you travel, the rarer the rewards.
Cartographer's Gambit
Cartographer villagers now serve a greater purpose in world exploration. When you trade with a cartographer, they occasionally gift you a special locator map pointing to unmarked territory they have heard rumors about.
How It Works
Map Generation
- Maps point to chunks you have never visited
- Each cartographer specializes in different distance ranges
- Maps expire after a set time if not pursued, preventing hoarding
Loot System
- Upon reaching marked coordinates and standing there briefly, a buried container spawns beneath you
- Loot scales by distance from the nearest village
- Short trips yield basic supplies like food and tools
- Extreme distances reward diamonds, enchanted books, or rare materials
Progression
- The system tracks which cartographers you have worked with
- Encourages seeking out multiple villages to access different distance ranges
Design
Creates meaningful interaction between the villager trading system and exploration incentives without adding fantasy elements or environmental buffs. The mechanic rewards players who actively engage with both the trading and exploration pillars of vanilla Minecraft while remaining lightweight through simple distance calculations and minimal entity tracking.
