Prismatic Wings
Prismatic Wings adds two smithing table recipes which upgrade an elytra, which can propel themselves without fireworks.

Prismatic Wings adds two upgrades to the elytra: Constellation and Terminal Velocity.
To make Constellation, bring an elytra, nether star, and an echo shard to a smithing table: !Recipe for Constellation. Press shift while flying with Constellation for a huge boost forward; press A or D to strafe left or right.
To make Terminal Velocity, bring and elytra, nether star, and a heavy core to a smithing table: !Recipe for Terminal Velocity. Look downward toward the ground (within 50 degrees of straight down) while flying with Terminal Velocity to gain Nitro. Hold shift to spend Nitro for constant, powerful thrust. Looking straight down triples Nitro gain, but risks slamming into the ground.
