  • Note: I have done a mistake, this version didn’t fully support Minecraft 1.21.9 because Mojang changed how the pack.mcmeta file works.
    So in the newer release (2025.10.31 or later), the pack has been properly updated to work with 1.21.9’s new format, while still keeping compatibility with 1.20.2–1.21.8.
    So if you’re on 1.21.9, make sure you download the latest release!

The Overlay Update information

Default Dark Mode: Expansion (as of 2025.10.1) now includes overlay support for Minecraft 1.20.2+. This was added to handle cases where mods still use older GUI assets in their main assets folder. With overlays, those outdated elements can be replaced by the updated GUI assets provided by the mod (for example, LevelZ uses newer 1.21.1 assets in its overlay). This ensures that mods with mismatched or legacy assets display consistently dependent on which Minecraft version you use. Thanks to mpustovoi for the Overlays.
