What is BTWR?

BTWR brings back the harsh, methodical survival that made Better Than Wolves stand out:

• Progression that forces you to think, not just grind
• Systems that interact in meaningful ways
• Mechanics that punish shortcuts and reward planning

Every block, machine, and decision matters.

Core Philosophy

This modpack is built around a few non-negotiable ideas:

• Survival should be earned — no handouts, no easy skips
• Automation is a reward — not something you rush in 20 minutes
• The world is hostile — and it stays that way
• Time matters — progression is deliberate and paced

If you try to play it like vanilla, it will push back hard.

Features

⚙️ Mechanical Progression

Mechanical systems provided by the Better With Time mod, including power, processing, and automation chains that require real infrastructure. Tweaked to fit the "hardcore" nature of modern Better Than Wolves.

🌾 Harsh Survival

Food, farming, and resource gathering are rebalanced to demand planning and long-term thinking.

🔥 Meaningful Tech Tree

No bloated tech mods — every unlock has a purpose and a cost.

🪓 Early-Game Struggle

The beginning is slow, dangerous, and intentional. Getting established is an achievement.

What Makes It Different?

BTWR is a modern "port" of BTW: Community Edition which is the continuation of the last version of the original mod.

Better Than Wolves at it's core is a tech mod which allows advanced automation and redstone interaction, but in late years of BTW's development the original developer (FlowerChild) overhauled the mod to have a very difficult early game. This gives the player a sense of achievement when hard tasks are accomplished so everything feels earned.

A very good explanation of BTW is that, while it is a total overhaul mod it still perserves that vanilla Minecraft feel. This trait gives the user the experience of Minecraft as if they're playing for the first time again.
