🐴 Uncraftable Saddles — Like It Used to Be

A lightweight datapack that removes the saddle crafting recipe and brings saddles back to dungeon, temple and fortress chests — exactly the way it was before 1.21.6.

❓ Why This Pack Exists

In 1.21.6, a crafting recipe for the saddle was added to the game, while at the same time saddles were removed from most chest loot tables. For many players, this ruined one of the most rewarding parts of exploration: finding a saddle as a rare treasure.

Saddle Restore rolls that change back:

• 🚫 No more crafting — the saddle recipe is completely disabled.
• 💰 Saddles are back in chests — with their original drop chances.
• 🎯 Nothing else is touched — every other recipe, loot table and mechanic stays 100% vanilla.

🔧 How It Works

• The minecraft:saddle recipe is overridden with a shapeless recipe that requires minecraft:barrier, making it impossible to craft in survival.
• Affected chest loot tables are overridden with current-version tables plus the original saddle entries re-added — so no other loot changes from newer updates are lost.

📦 Installation

Singleplayer

1. Download the datapack.
2. Place the Uncraftable Saddles folder into .minecraft/saves/<world>/datapacks/.
3. Run /datapack reload or rejoin the world.
4. Optional: /recipe take @a minecraft:saddle to clear the recipe from recipe books.

Server

1. Place the folder into <server>/world/datapacks/.
2. Restart the server or run /datapack reload.

❓ FAQ

Does it change any other loot? No. Only the saddle recipe and the saddle entries in the listed loot tables are modified.

Do already generated chests get updated? No. Loot is rolled when chunks generate. Explore new chunks or create a new world to see the change.

How can I test it quickly? Run /loot give @s loot minecraft:chests/simple_dungeon a few times — saddles should drop again.

Does it work with mods? Yes, as long as a mod doesn’t hard-code its own saddle recipe. This pack only overrides vanilla data-driven files.
