StreamCraft Live v0.16.4 (alpha) — Block Glow, and shaders that behave
This update rolls up everything since v0.15.11. The short version: your screens now cast a soft colored glow onto the room around them, shader-pack players get a StreamCraft that knows how to share the stage, YouTube restreams sound properly, and Display Block settings stop reverting.
This is an alpha. Block Glow is brand new and shader support is fresh, so both want real-world mileage. Everything here is safe to run on a live server, but if you want the settled build, stay on v0.15.11.
Block Glow
- Displays now light the room. A soft colored glow spills onto the wall around every Display Block, following the colors at the edges of whatever is playing: a sunset scene washes the room orange, an ocean scene cools it blue. The glow tracks the video live and smoothly, without strobing on hard cuts.
- Everyone who can see the screen sees the glow, including your own self-view while you stream.
- On by default at Medium. Every Display Block has its own control: open the display's config screen and cycle Glow: OFF / Low / Medium / High next to Done. The setting saves per block and syncs to everyone.
- It reads the actual picture, never the black bars on letterboxed content, and it respects the display's brightness and opacity.
- Free for everyone, on every supported Minecraft version and both loaders. It's a visual effect only, so it lights the room without lighting the world: your mob farms are safe.
Shader packs
- Screens work with shader packs. Verified with BSL, Complementary Reimagined, Photon and Solas. If your display went invisible when you switched a pack on, the cause was almost certainly the pack's own version rather than StreamCraft: several popular packs had no build for the Minecraft version you were running. Update to a current pack (Photon v1.3+, Solas 3.6+, BSL 10.1.2+, Complementary r5.7+) and screens render as they should.
- Block Glow steps aside while a shader pack is on. The glow is a soft light StreamCraft paints around a display, and it cannot look right next to a pack's own lighting: under Photon it disappeared, under the others it blew out into a white halo. Rather than fight the pack, the glow stands down and lets the pack light your world. Turn shaders off and the glow comes straight back.
- The Glow control tells you why: with a pack loaded it reads Glow: shader pack and names the pack that's active.
- Known issue: with Solas, screens are dimmer than they should be at night or indoors, because the pack lights the panel instead of leaving it self-lit. BSL, Photon and Complementary are unaffected. A fix is identified and coming.
Better YouTube restream audio
- Streaming to YouTube used to sound noticeably worse than the same stream on the web viewer. Your desktop audio was being squeezed through a thin encode before it ever left the game, then re-encoded twice more on the way out.
- StreamCraft now publishes desktop audio at full quality (and stops treating game audio like speech, which was quietly cutting quiet passages), and the YouTube side is encoded at a higher bitrate and the correct sample rate. Web viewers benefit too.
Fixes
- Display Block settings stick. Auto-crop and the bezel mark silently reverted on chunk reload or server restart on several Minecraft versions. They now persist everywhere.
- Toggling the bezel mark in the config screen no longer gets overwritten by a background sync before you click Done.
- The bezel mark is now off by default. Blocks where you turned it on keep it on.
Upgrading
- No wire-protocol change since v0.15.11, so mixed versions can still connect, and there is no new terms prompt. Settings and licenses carry over.
- Block Glow needs both server and client on this build to sync the per-block setting; a newer client on an older server simply won't see the glow control take effect.
- Power users: a new
shaderCompatModesetting inconfig/streamcraft-client.jsonacceptsAUTO(default),ALWAYS(never draw the glow) orOFF(draw the glow even under a shader pack).
