SCP Modern — Version 1.20-1.2-pre-beta-b
Pre-release · Minecraft 1.20.x · Forge · Requires GeckoLib 4.4+
Overview
This update delivers significant AI and behaviour overhauls to two of the mod's most iconic SCPs, introduces two new blocks related to SCP-106's corrosive nature, and expands his movement system with a multi-layer pursuit mechanic.
SCP-173 — Behaviour Improvements
AI Targeting Refinement
SCP-173's targeting logic has been rewritten to be considerably more selective and lore-accurate. The entity now exclusively targets players and villagers, and will no longer attack or pursue hostile or neutral mobs. This prevents unintended combat interactions with other entities and ensures SCP-173 behaves as a directed threat rather than a general-purpose mob-killer.
- ✅ Targets players and villagers only.
- ✅ No longer attacks hostile or neutral mobs.
- ✅ Villager targeting remains fully functional and intentional.
SCP-106 — Major Overhaul
Pursuit Range & AI
SCP-106's pursuit system has been substantially improved. The detection and chase range has been increased, and the underlying AI logic is now more responsive and consistent when tracking targets across the environment.
Multi-Layer Teleportation
SCP-106 can now cross vertical layers to reach his target. When the player is on a significantly different Y-level and within pursuit range, SCP-106 will initiate a layer-teleport sequence:
- He plays his retreat animation and sinks below the surface.
- After a brief delay, he re-emerges at the player's Y-level in an adjacent position.
- Normal pursuit resumes from there.
This mechanic cannot trigger while SCP-106 is inside a containment barrier. A cooldown prevents it from being used repeatedly in rapid succession.
Visual Corrosion Effects
The wall-corrosion visual has been enhanced. SCP-106 now leaves behind two new decorative blocks when passing through surfaces:
| Block | Description |
|---|---|
Corrosion Block | A full solid block representing deeply corroded, blackened material. Instant-break, no blast resistance. |
Corrosion Layer | A thin 1-pixel surface layer (similar to snow-layer depth 1). No collision — players walk through it freely. Supports waterlogging. |
Both blocks are purely cosmetic and can be placed independently for building purposes.
Iron Vulnerability
SCP-106 now takes a portion of damage from iron-based attacks. Specifically, he is 87% vulnerable to iron — meaning iron weapons and tools deal substantially more damage than other materials. This is intended as a containment mechanic and foreshadows the planned dedicated containment system.
Note: SCP-106's current containment site (the Nether teleportation destination) is a temporary placeholder. A custom Pocket Dimension is in active development and will replace it in a future release.
Pocket Dimension (In Development)
When SCP-106 catches a player, he currently teleports them to The Nether as a stand-in for his lore-accurate Pocket Dimension. The dedicated dimension is still in development and will be added in a subsequent update.
Bug Fixes & Internal Changes
- Corrosion block and corrosion layer assets, block states, loot tables, and item models registered.
- SCP-106 renderer updated to support the new corrosion and layer-emerge visual states.
- SCP-173
HostileMobTargetEventhandler updated to exclude hostile and neutral entity targets.
Known Issues / Planned
- The Pocket Dimension for SCP-106 is not yet implemented; The Nether is used as a temporary destination.
- SCP-106's new containment block (replacing the current site) is in development.
- Iron vulnerability for SCP-106 is implemented but may require further balancing.
