Feather Pickaxe Rework — Patch Notes

Major overhaul to the Feather Pickaxe’s flight and landing mechanics, adding depth, balance, and spectacular effects!

Flight & Cooldown System

• Limited flight duration: Flight now lasts 5 seconds per activation, preventing indefinite flying.
• Cooldown introduced: After flight ends, a 10-second cooldown applies before flight can be used again, adding strategic timing.
• Flight activation: Flight only enables when holding the Feather Pickaxe; disables immediately when unequipped.
• Flight state handling: Disabled flight abilities properly reset for players who are not in creative or spectator modes.

Landing & Slow Falling

• Slow Falling effect added: Upon flight end mid-air, player gains a temporary Slow Falling effect to prevent fall damage.
• Faster-than-normal fall during slow falling: Slow Falling effect still prevents fall damage, but player falls faster than usual for dramatic landings.
• Landing detection: The mod now accurately detects when the player lands or gets close to the ground after flight.

Explosive Landing Mechanic

• Crater creation: Landing from a significant height (3+ blocks) creates a flattened crater by breaking blocks around the landing spot.
• Damage to nearby entities: Living entities (mobs and other players) near the impact take damage scaled by fall distance and proximity.
• Player immune to own landing damage: The player using the Feather Pickaxe is immune to damage caused by their landing blast.

Visual & Audio Enhancements

• Particle effects:

  • Cloud particle trail while gliding mid-air.
  • Explosion emitter and cloud burst on impact for a dramatic landing effect.

• Flight status messages: Informative client-side messages display flight status and cooldown countdown.

Bug Fixes & Improvements

• Precise crater placement: Crater and explosion now occur exactly where the player lands, preventing drift-related offsets.
• No premature landing explosions: Explosion and crater effects no longer trigger prematurely when switching the Feather Pickaxe on/off.
• Consistent flight ability toggling: Proper enabling and disabling of flight abilities ensures stable behavior across different game modes.
• Particle effects optimized: Particle spawning occurs client-side to reduce server overhead and lag.
