What it adds:

Shapeless crafting recipies that allow you to do netherite upgrades in a crafting table eg Upgrade Template + Diamond Chestplate + Netherite Ingot-> Netherite Chestplate

How its useful

It allows you to auto-upgrade as the smithing table doesent allow that, this is especially useful in the create mod as you can do Automated Shapeless Crafting with the mixer.
