Project Updates
- Uploading the first minor version really made me focus on this project more, so here's the first draft of the balances for survival mode!
- Work will continue to balance things out for 26.3. With a bulk of the changes, 26.3 will likely see at least one or two more new enchantments as well :)
- An updated enchantment documentation is in the works, which will hopefully be done for the next major update.
Changes
-
Condensing
- Moved from Tools to Armor enchantment
- No longer updates components for Item entities. Instead the function will update the entire player inventory at once while moving, or every 30 seconds.
- Items that will not have their stack size increased are controlled with the new non_stacking item tag.
- Condensing stack size increased from 80 to 96.
- A fun quirk of this arises when interacting with Bundles. They’re programmed to work based on an item’s “max_stack_size” component. This means that when you’re using bundles and have Condensing on your armor, you can fit up to 96 items in a bundle now.
-
Reaching
- Lowered the maximum level from 6 to 5, to keep in line with vanilla.
- Increased the range from 1.2 blocks per level to 1.5
-
Creeper’s Curse
- Lowered maximum level from 6 to 5, to keep in line with vanilla.
- Removed the prevent_armor_change effect. Since curse of binding is already in the game, I decided it may be a bit mean to have Creeper’s Curse automatically be stuck to the player.
- Added a check for if the player is sneaking to make the player explode. This also prevents saddling players on an SMP with a super direct death sentence if targeted by a Creeper’s Curse + Curse of Binding item. As long as they’re mindful of when they’re sneaking, things should be fine for awhile.
-
Curse of Gluttony
- Reduced chance of item regaining durability from eating blocks to 10%
- Reduced durability gained from eating blocks from 5 to 2. Tools with Curse of Gluttony were lasting much longer than intended. The whole point of this curse is that it is a boost for Mending and Efficiency, not a replacement.
-
Prospecting
- Increased required level for night vision from 20 to 30. This change was done based on the idea that some enchants can only be applied at or above level 30. Done to match vanilla’s sense of “required power” for magic.
-
Treasured
- Removed random chance for loot to be dropped. Loot will now be dropped every time an entity wearing a piece of armor with Treasured is hit.
- Removed random chance of armor losing 40 durability when getting attacked. Instead this is replaced with a 50% chance to instantly break the armor. This should help keep mob farms relatively uncluttered, while still getting extra loot.
-
Reaping
- Damage added by Reaping reduced from 5 to 1.5 per level. This keeps hoes enchanted with Reaping roughly in line with a Sharpness 5 Netherite Sword.
- When combined with Finesse, the “Scythes” are currently a pretty overpowered weapon. I’m torn on if it’s more interesting to keep them a bit unbalanced to shake things up, or making “Scythes” slower weapons to account for the extra XP they can squeeze out of mobs.
-
Lucky
- Lucky can now be applied to all Pickaxes.
- Now mutually exclusive with Fortune.
- Maximum level increased from 1 to 4.
- Lucky will now multiply the amount of experience gained from mining ores. This effect scales with level, with level 1 being a 1.25 multiplier, and level 4 doubling experience gains.
- The lucky_tools item tag has been renamed to the pickaxe item tag, and has been expanded to include the Copper, Stone, and Wooden pickaxes
- The extra drops that can be obtained by mining blocks have been moved behind a level requirement. Now it will require the player to have reached at least level 30 to activate the secondary effect.
- Every tier of pickaxe now has loot that will drop.
- Instead of always getting a loot drop after mining a predetermined number of blocks, there is now a 2% chance with every block you mine, you’ll be given some loot from the luck_loot_table. This new table replaces the ones that were created for each tier of pickaxe.
- Added auditory and visual feedback for when Lucky’s secondary ability activates.
Removed Enchantments
-
Petrify
- Although it was limited to late game chests, the ability to make any mob into a statue is just too overpowered for survival.
-
Frost Aspect
- I liked the idea with this one originally, but scrapped it due to it feeling a bit unoriginal. I like the idea of an enchantment that buries targets, so this might be revisited later.
